Iolite - known as the gemstone of the Vikings, and closely resembles blue sapphire. Vikings were reputed to use the clarity of the gemstone to mark the position of the sun, and so map a true course home. Seen here set in gold.

The natural limestone area has a rocky landscape of limestone that yet nurtures some of the world's rarest flora and fauna.
